8.03 Safari Quest Two—Fish

Eeeek! What was that? In the tidal pool? It was scaly and shot from one side of the pool to the other.

Ohhhh, there it went again. Quite slowly. Ahhh there's the culprit—a tiny rock goby. It's a little fish that lives among the rocks here in the pool.

Sorry! You'd think I'd be used to fish. Especially since fishing is my family's business. It was just that the little fella startled me.

So, have you guessed the quest for this activity? You'll be in search of fish! We'll stay here in the Pacific Northwest for this quest too! A wide variety of fish live in our waters.

In this activity, you will:
  • discuss the structure and function of gills and the respiratory system of fish
  • describe the reproductive strategies of fish
  • relate the special adaptations of fish to their success

Let the Quest Begin

To get started, open, save (as an .rtf), and print the Fish Field Guide.

  • You will complete this Fish Field Guide and submit it as a page to be included in a field guide that BioVentures Unlimited is preparing for its tour guests.
  • Make sure to look it over carefully before you get started.
  • You can complete some information along the way as you explore.
  • You will want to wait on some information until you've selected the fish you'll include in your field guide.
