6.02 Bacteria: Life Inside One Cell

Howdy! Let’s go find Dad for your tour.

The Triple T Ranch is a very special place! We pride ourselves on providing authentic experiences for the folks who come stay with us! That's not our only shining star though; we are one of the only ranches in the state that has been given the Eco Friendly Farm award!

My folks grew up in a time when conservation and ecology were daily discussions. So when they started this place, they made it their goal to use technology and innovative practices to make this place environmentally friendly. They have worked very hard and deserve this award!

I think I will let Dad tell you all about it.

In this activity, you will:
  • identify the characteristics and structure of bacteria
  • summarize the adaptations of bacteria
  • discuss two types of bacteria reproduction

Hi ya'll, I'm Tom, Trudy's dad, and the owner of this great place we call the Triple T. You've already heard how we're on the cutting edge in our use of environmentally friendly technology, and I know that Trudy gave you a hint that our cattle are involved in a very important project. This project is all based around the power of bacteria.  Think for a moment. Can you name five places where you can find bacteria?

They're everywhere! Living, microscopic organisms—germs. We constantly try to get rid of them, but in reality we can't live without them. We're talking bacteria here. Open a new Notes Page and add information to it as you move through today's topic—Bacteria!

Mouse over each image to check and see if any of these were on your list:

picture of swiss cheese, rollover text reads Swiss cheese: The holes in this type of cheese come from gases produced by bacteria during the production of the cheese.closeup of a man's mouth showing his teeth, rollover text reads In your teeth: Bacteria are the culprits that cause tooth decay.two cows, rollover text reads Stomachs of Cows: Bacteria help cows digest the grass and plant material they eat. pair of hands, rollover text reads Hands: On your hands and every other part of your body for that matter. Bacteria exist on your body as a natural part of the ecosystem of your skin.
