7.07 Living with the Land

Plants are amazing and wonderful. You've been quite helpful with assisting our scientists in uncovering facts about plants and how they work, but do you know what one of my favorite things about them is? Chocolate. Really.

Chocolate comes from a plant, like the one some of our silviculturists (tree farmers) are looking at in the image below. It’s a bean. Imagine—chocolate comes from a bean. Who would have guessed?

I wonder how many of the products that we touch and use each day come from plants.



In this activity, you will:
  • evaluate the importance of plants to life on the earth

Try this activity. Think about your average day. What are some ways plants are involved? Chew on that question for a while. I think I'll chew on some more chocolate. You will see this question again really soon.
