The Honors student will:
My boss asked me to swing by that stream up there and collect some water samples for lab testing. After watching those crocodiles, you might say I will definitely look before I leap. With that said, we need to split into two groups. One group will take water samples above the fall, and the second group in the pool below the fall Here, grab a kit and help me out. You know the old saying: many hands make quick work. Stream EcologyThe health of an ecosystem is sometimes measured in biodiversity. Biodiversity refers to the number and kinds of populations of plants and animals living in a particular area. Healthy ecosystems usually have higher biodiversity than an unhealthy area. Also, there are certain species of organisms that survive well in harsh conditions, and their presence may indicate some problems. This is especially true for water ecosystems. Organisms in water are especially susceptible to anything that may get dumped and dissolved into the water. Up here in the mountains we'd expect the water to be pure and the water ecosystem to be healthy, but let's see what we find. Follow this side path to the lab.
So what did you find out? Healthy? Not so healthy? What's the report? 2.07 Honors Extension: Stream Ecology Note: You should have completed the regular portion of the activity and should have already submitted the assessment for that part of the activity.
