8.06 Safari Quest Four—Reptiles

Time to Reflect

Reptiles are a group of vertebrate animals that range from the long, lanky snake to the large, lurking crocodile. All reptiles reproduce on the land and have adaptations to help them survive the harsh environments that they can encounter living on dry land. Reptiles also have some keen senses, some that are quite unique to this group, like the Jacobsen's organ, that allow them to be successful in hunting for food and protecting themselves.

  • Reptiles have bodies covered by scales to prevent drying out.
  • Reptiles reproduce sexually and lay amniotic eggs.
  • Except snakes, reptiles have strong sturdy legs that support their bodies for movement on land.
