8.03 Safari Quest Two—Fish

Time to Reflect

Fish are a group of vertebrate animals that live in a water environment. There are three basic groups of fish. The jawless fish, cartilaginous fish, and the bony fish. All fish use a structure called gills for efficient gas exchange. Gills allow these animals to get the oxygen they need to survive, and release the carbon dioxide waste produced from making cellular energy.

Special adaptations of fish include scales, fins, and swim bladders.

I can't believe your time with me on Vancouver Island is coming to a close. I hope you found your stay here exciting, and that you were successful in finding your invertebrate and your fish. I can't wait to see the field guide that you are helping BioVentures Unlimited create.

As you complete your quest for fish, you'll be leaving the Pacific Northwest and heading south to the rainforest of Ecuador to quest after amphibians.
