At the BeachAre you rested up? It's a short walk to the shore where we'll start looking for your special invertebrate. Do you have your sunscreen on? The coast here is so beautiful and intriguing that you can get lost in exploring and forget about how strong the sun is. What you'll find when we get to the shore is a wonderfully rocky tidal area. The tidal pools are filled with a variety of animals. As you explore the tidal pools, you'll discover both vertebrates (fish, birds, mammals) and invertebrates. Concentrate on the invertebrates. When you get down there, you must take time to visit the PBS Tidal Pool and explore there for a while. As you investigate the tidal pool at both high and low tide, take the three Side Trips below to help you consider the characteristics of invertebrates.
Now explore the PBS Tidal Pool. When you finish, come back and use the web resources to complete your Invertebrates Field Guide. Remember, the tidal pool is only a starting point. There are tons of other choices. Explore and find the special invertebrate that you just can't resist including in your Field Guide.
