4.06 Genetic Park: DNA

Yuck... Snakes just make the hair on the back of my neck stand up! Yes, that fight or flight mode kicks in at just the sight of one.

Talking about hair, why does our hair grow? DNA, that's why! DNA contains the information for making proteins in the cells. Proteins are what help make us who we are, and they keep the chemistry of life running smoothly. Your hair follicles (cells that grow hair), for example, generate all the protein you need to make your hair. DNA ensures that the information is passed to new cells and new offspring. Let's head into DNA Gallery to investigate.

There are three parts to this gallery. In this activity you will learn a little bit about the structure and function of DNA, genes and chromosomes.

  • In each gallery below you will find an activity related to Genetics, DNA, and the history of DNA discovery and importance.
  • Take time to explore each activity!
  • Then come back to this page to continue the tour.
