Grab your lab coat ... it's time to get your hands dirty. Please review the lab safety procedures found in the Course Information area. You'll be working with a sharp object so you need to be extra careful.
Purpose: investigate and observe the reproductive parts in flowers.
Material list:
Large flowers. (For example, a lily is a great flower for this activity. Azaleas and hibiscus work well too.) Contact your instructor if you need other alternatives.
Cutting board.
Scalpel, single-edged razor blades, or small sharp kitchen knife. (Safety reminder: Cut with sharp edge of blade facing away from you. Cut slowly and carefully so you don't damage your cutting surface, hands, or the flower specimen.)
Magnifying glass.
A camera (a 12-exposure disposable will do—have your pictures developed onto a CD so that you can submit them as part of your report).
