6.01 Viruses: Living or Not Living?

Welcome I’m Tracy Trudy’s mom. We are so glad to have you here visiting with us. Let’s get you all settled in and fed. Tom will show you around the ranch and then we have a great dinner planned.

Before I get busy fixin’ supper I have to run down to the barn to check on some animals. There have been some reports of West Nile Virus in the area and I want to be sure our animals all look good and healthy! I’ll meet you back for supper.

Tracy will take you down to meet Tom and fill you in on some information along the way. Enjoy your tour and don’t forget your boots!

In this activity, you will:
  • identify the reasons viruses are not considered living organisms
  • classify viruses
  • compare types of viral reproductive cycles

Viruses come in many different shapes and forms. Some infect bacteria, others infect plants, and still others infect animals. (Yes! Animals ... like horses and humans.) Because viruses are so important, in many ways, scientists and biologists do classify and study them. Explore the bulleted information below to see how viruses are classified.

Let’s move BioVenture tab to learn more about viruses.
