3.08 The Cell: Mitosis

Time to Reflect

Growing! Yes, we all do it! Think about all the times when you pulled on a pair of pants that were two inches too short, or when the shoes that fit a few months ago are now a couple of sizes too small leaving you with painful blisters. Growth is possible through cellular division known as mitosis.
  • Mitosis is the part of the cell cycle where cells replicate to make new identical cells.
  • Mitosis is how typical body cells reproduce.
  • If you cut your finger, it is mitosis that regenerates the new skin cells.
  • Some cells like human nerve cells and muscle cells do not divide after they are formed.
