3.04 The Cell: Eukaryotes...Complex Cells

It was really nice of Dr. Q to give us the opportunity to explore in this area of the tomb complex. Oh, and as we were heading out to our tents last night, I over heard some of his workers saying that this site is

We know better, don't we! There is no such thing as a curse. The bacteria that have laid in wait for all these years is the cause of the sickness in the workers, but just as in years past, superstitions and not being able to see the culprits make for good curse stories!

In this activity you will:
  • explore and define the eukaryote type cell
  • relate the structure and function of the common cell organelles in the eukaryote type cell
  • compare and contrast the organelles in plant and animal cells

Niles, come quickly, there has been an accident; one of Dr. Q's workers, the one that was making the repair to our van, burned his leg while using a welding torch.

Ouch! Have you ever had a bad burn? Burns are dangerous injuries and should be taken very seriously. If the burn is treated properly, infection can be avoided and the skin should heal quickly. When someone suffers an injury like this burn, skin cells regenerate new skin over the wound. The immune system, combined with the use of antibiotic creams, should keep infection away.

Sometimes people have an accident and the wound area is too large to heal, as in very bad burns. In these cases, there are too many damaged cells and the body just can't repair it fast enough! The good news is that through the study of cells, scientists have learned how to make new skin! Right inside a lab! Check out this short video on "Growing Skin."

Interesting, isn't it? In the rest of this activity you'll learn about cells that make up a human's body as well as all the other organisms besides bacteria.
