The Nervous System
As you work through your trip, answer the following questions in your Travel Log.
- If you haven't already started a Notes Page for this Safari Quest, open one and copy and paste the following items into a Notes Page.
- Access the Web Resource for this side trip.
- Complete each item as you explore.
- In the nervous system area, click on the Brain.
- About how much does a typical, adult, human brain weigh?
- What are the three main parts of the brain and what in general do they control?
- What is the function of the fluid around the brain?
- Click on the Nervous System button on the left side of the page (blue area).
- Choose Nerve Cell.
- Roll your mouse over the Nerve Cell. Identify the nucleus, dendrite, and axon part of the nerve cell.
- Draw and label a nerve cell in your Notes Page. Include the function of each part of the neuron.
- Then write a one-sentence description of what a typical nerve cell (neuron, a nerve cell) looks like.
- Then write a description of how the structure of each part of the cell fits its function.
