Classification
The number of bacterium species is quite large. Until recently, all bacteria were classified in the Moneran Kingdom. Most scientists today classify bacteria into two kingdoms:
- Archaebacteria - bacteria that live in extreme conditions. For example, bacteria that live in the "Great Salt Lake" of Utah and in the fissures of hot volcano vents.
- Eubacteria — bacteria that live in typical environments, like on your hands, in foods, and in soil.
