Importance of Fungi

Fungi are very, very important in the recycling of elements and nutrients on earth. They are decomposers. They break down dead organic matter, using it for their own energy and nutrients. The picture of this pasture of lush, green grass is made possible by fungus.

When the cows or horses leave behind manure, the fungi break down the waste, and make nutrients like nitrogen available for the grass to thrive.
