Writing Your Introduction [Instructions]
Today, you should write your Introduction.
There are a few steps to writing an Intro. Try these steps in order. Each step should be about 1 or 2 sentences.
1) Come up with a hook. This should be an interesting sentence that gets your reader interested in the topic. Ask them a question, get them to relate to the theme, explain why the theme is important, or something else that might be intriguing.
2) Introduce the Author and the Novel. The reader needs to know what you are writing about and who it is by. Feel free to give some background info on the author.
3) Explain your theme and why it is important in the novel. What's so great about your theme?
4) Write a thesis statement. This is the last sentence of your introduction. It summarizes your paper in one sentence.
Here is my example with the parts labeled:
(1) Nature is all around us. It is in the air we breath and the water we drink. When you look out the window during fall, it's impossible to ignore the beauty of the falling leaves. (2) In Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, nature plays a large role. It is found all over the book. Mary Shelley was a Romantic writer, and the Romantics loved nature, which is probably why it appears so often in her novel. (3) Without the influence of nature in the novel, many characters would not have a way to remove their suffering. (4) In the novel, Mary Shelley does her best to show how powerful nature can be.
