Here are the steps for writing your body paragraphs:
Reminder - You will write the paragraph from the inside out, not from the first sentence to the last.
[1] Type the quote and place quotation marks around it. [This will be in the middle of the paragraph]
[2] Cite the quote (page#.line#). [This goes right after the quote]
[3] Introduce the quote (what Act and scene is it from and who said it?). [This goes right before the quote]
[4] Explain the quote. Why is it being said in the play and what does it mean? [This goes right after the quote]
[5] Say what we learn, or what Shakespeare is trying to say, or how the theme is being developed. [This goes right after step 4]
[6] Write a topic sentence that mentions the theme and the main idea of the paragraph [This goes right at the beginning of the paragraph]
[6]Insanity can come from other sources as well, such as love. [3] In Act 2 scene 1 of Hamlet, Ophelia explains to her father, Polonius, that Hamlet has just approached her acting mad. Ophelia tells Polonius, [1] "He took me by the wrist and held me hard; Then goes he to the length of all his arm, And, with his other hand thus o'er his brow, He falls to such perusal of my face As he would draw it. Long stay'd he so" [2] (43.99). [4] When Hamlet grabs her arm and simply stares at her deeply, Ophelia knows something is wrong with him. Polonius suggests that Hamlet has gone mad because of his love for Ophelia. [5] Shakespeare seems to be suggesting that love is such a powerful force, it can drive someone crazy.
Your sentences will end up in this order when you are done:
